This week for Viola: changes to the battle system! Potions can be used in battle, guarding attracts enemies and halves damage and enemies drop gold and equipment when defeated. We've also got a few animations and such. Click 'Read more' to find out more about the new changes! Viola TriggerThe first change was adding gold. I wanted to give players a bigger reward upon defeating enemies, since playtesters wanted ways to avoid enemies. Gold can be used to buy more potions and equipment, which will be necessary, since the game is much harder now! Monsters deal more damage, players have less HP and deal less damage. Players will have to cleverly use guard to draw attention to their tanks, and use potions and spells to get a leg up during the fight. The code is trivial: add an amount of gold to the ItemHandler when a monster is destroyed. Same for the potions: add to currentHP for the currently controlled character, and remove a potion from ItemHandler. The menu still needs work.
As seen in the GIF, I also worked on animations! Only 80+ more to go... Next week, I'm going to work on story-related stuff. An intro cutscene with text and images, party members reacting and talking with Viola during platforming gameplay, and a final cutscene with player interaction at the end. Will I be able to do it in one week? Who knows!
